
The Ministry of Health and Population is mandated to improve the health of the Nepalese
people. It is responsible for developing policies on, and arranging the provision of, curative services, disease prevention, health promotion and primary health care. It leads NHSP-2 including the coordination of EDP inputs
under a sector wide approach (SWAp).

The Department of Health Services (DoHS) is responsible for delivering preventive, promotive and curative health services throughout Nepal.

The Department of Urban Development and Building Construction oversees the procurement and construction of new health facilities based on MoHP’s requirements. It is located within the Ministry of Urban Development.

LGCDP is the Nepalese government programme for developing local governance and funding the delivery of services through local government. This programme plans to soon adopt the approach taken by MoHP’s Equity and Access Programme for fostering demand
for health services and promoting healthy behaviour within its social mobilisation activities. LGCDP is implemented by the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development (MoFALD).

MoWCSW plays an important role in protecting the interests of, and promoting programmes to benefit women, children and the socially disadvantaged across Nepal. Its district based women’s development offices (WDOs) help to address and prevent gender-based
violence and directly support survivors who attend hospital-based one-stop crisis management centres (OCMCs).
